Please No Broken Bones
My son starts skiing today…
breathe in breathe out…ok I think I feel better now. Oh wait one more thing….dear Lord please no broken bones! Ok now I think I do feel a little better. lol
His school offers a winter recreation program that goes for several weeks every Thursday. They start at noon and go until it’s time for them to come back and get on the buses to go home (so a couple hours). Anyways…he’s been wanting to learn how to ski for about two years now, maybe three so this is perfect for him.
Call me paranoid but I’m really nervous about him going out on that ski slope today! We’ve made it 11 years with no stitches, broken bones, etc. Honestly I’m not sure how we’ve made it this long with no broken bones because my kiddo is a dare devil! He’s not afraid of much and will try just about anything. The time that we do end up with a broken bone or something is going to be now when this is ‘mild’ compared to the dirt bike jumping, skateboarding jumping, boyish activities he’s done in the past!
I was impressed with him about the fact that they do not require the kids to wear a helmet (unless they are snowboarding – he isn’t old enough (have to be in 6th grade) to do that yet which is what he really wanted to do) but they do recommend it. Caleb came home and asked if his dad and I could get him a helmet. For a kid to think safety that’s pretty impressive…especially my kid! lol
So I’m going to be a nervous wreck all day today until he gets home!

It must be so hard to let your baby go off and do stuff they want to do when you’re afraid for them. I know if I had kids I’d wrap them up in bubble wrap and never let them out of my sight! Good for you for getting past your own nervousness and encouraging him to get out and participate in life. He’ll be a better adult for it.
And good for you for getting him a helmet!

Cindy I think all boys should be wrapped in bubble wrap! If all boys are anything like my son then yeah it should be a law
I was a nervous wreck but once he got home and told me all about it I’m so glad I just let him do it.
Laura Freak out is putting it mildly. I was chewing my nails, my heart fell to the floor every time the phone rang…blah blah blah. lol

Ha ha! Well not ha ha. But, I can’t believe he’s never had a broken bone or stitches yet. Sheesh. Brandon had a broken foot at 3 from jumping off a bunk bed, Kaleb had stitches in his eyebrow at like 2 or 3 from something, I can’t remember now, Trisha had a broken arm in 4th grade, Kaleb also had a broken arm when he was 9, Karlie jumped off the stairs just recently, last Thanksgiving and was on crutches, Kaleb’s been on crutches for something or other a couple of times…need I go on….LOL! You’ve been, or rather, Caleb’s been protected
A blessing for sure!
