Tell Me Thursday – The Tree That Grew Shoes
A couple weeks ago I posted this Wordless Wednesday photo and I totally forgot to come back and do a Tell Me Thursday post about it. I forgot all about it until one of my readers commented that she wanted to know the story behind the picture (thanks for the ‘reminder’ Jen!).
Here’s the Photo Again (The Tree That Grew Shoes):

The Story:
The tree has always put a smile on my face every time I pass it. This tree is located on a main road between Mancelona, Michigan and Kalkaska, Michigan. For as long as I can remember the ‘Shoe Tree’ has been around. At one point in time the county or someone came along and took all the shoes down to no avail. It wasn’t long after the shoes were taken down that they started appearing again!
Not much of a story behind the picture but I find it cute and just wanted to share.

That is so funny! Morgan asks me all the time why people throw shoes on the power lines. I honestly have no clue, but it still cracks me up that it happens!

Not So Average Mama – Yeah I’ve never really understood the whole point behind the shoes on this tree (never heard of shoes on power lines before!) but it makes me laugh every time I see it.

I did a Google search on it. There wasn’t any real story as to how or when it got started, but most of the information points to graduates throwing their shoes up there every year after graduation. Some shoes have notes on them and/or dates. I know it’s been there for as long as I can remember. It is fun to drive by and see.

Mary – I was going to Google it and then I got sidetracked & forgot to. Thanks for telling the story behind my WW pic
Julie – That’s cool to know that there are other trees around like the one near me. LOL Who would have thought that throwing shoes up in a tree was so interesting and fun?

I was wondering the story behind it. How neat.. There is a little cabin back on a back road here in the mountains that has coffee cups all over it. I bet there is about 500 or more cups all over that cabin. I have always wondered the story behind it and how they do not break when there is a storm or something.
