Getting Healthy – Not Just Physical but Mental and Spiritual as Well
I thought maybe this year that I wouldn’t address the whole getting healthy, losing weight ‘first of the year’ buzz but guess what? Yep once again I’m going there. I don’t even know why I thought I could possibly not talk about it. After all eating healthy and getting healthy is definitely on my to do list as it is on many other people’s lists as well.
It seems like everywhere I go or whatever I do I hear someone talking about dieting, exercising, losing weight and getting healthy.
At Wal-Mart yesterday, standing in line, I overheard a couple women talking about the great deal they just got on gym memberships and how this was going to be the year they did it. The year they lost the weight they needed, got skinny, felt good about themselves and strutted their stuff.
From the conversation (there was more to it than the above) I learned they were both single, in the mid 30’s and ready to settle down with the love of their life…once they found Mr. Right.
It doesn’t take much to hear about the newest, greatest ‘magic’ diet pill. You walk into a store and all their weight loss aids are right there. You turn on the radio and you hear advertisements for weight loss products. Turn on the TV and you see someone showing their fab new slim figure. And of course you’ll come across weight loss ads on the internet.
The conversation I overheard at Wal-Mart yesterday is what really inspired this post. As I listenened to them it was as if I was listening to myself and my best friend. Every year we always say that it’s going to be THE year for us. The year that we lose weight. The year that we exercise on a regular basis. The year that we do this, this and this. And we always start off on the right foot but eventually give up.
I started to think about everything I have been going through lately with being diagnosed Bipolar and all the emotional things I’ve been dealing with. I remember something that was recently said to me by not just one person but many – eating healthy and exercising regularly goes farther than just ‘physical’ health. It helps with mental health as well. And then of course spiritual health plays a role in every area.
So for the first time in my life instead of focusing on just the eating healthy and exercising (which in the past it’s always been for all the wrong reasons) I’m working on all the areas together – spiritual, health and mental. So maybe now that I’m working on incorporating all these areas together I’ll have success!
How about you what are you doing this year to get healthy?

You have a great attitude, Tishia! I think you’re totally right, that working on all these aspects on a daily basis is the key to success.
I’m on the same journey to get healthy and live a more balanced life. Hoping this is the year we can both be successful!

It definately all goes hand in hand!!
My mom and I started last year trying to eliminate as many foods that contain chemicals as we could – we are now pretty organic and have both cut caffeine out aswell!
I do pilates 3 times a week and its as much for the excercise as it is for my soul!! When we took a break now over christmas I missed it terrible – I was still gyming but missed the pilates!
Good luck Tishia!!!

That’s certainly the way to go. Isn’t it amazing that after trial and error we finally get it? That’s it an all round state of being. Good for you and good luck with everything!
