Kitty Training – Is It Possible?

Our kitten is a spazz. Kind of funny that Caleb picked Spazz as his name because it’s 250% fitting let me tell you. This kitten bounces off the walls…literally! He runs & pounces at a wall (or door or whatever) and I laugh because he bounces off it and turns around and does it again. He’s afraid of his own shadow. You should see the hair on him stand up when he sees his shadow and the way he hisses at it. Then there are the times he just runs and runs from one end of the house to the next. But the biggest problem I have with him are the claws! My legs, arms, hands and face have been attacked on more than one occasion. My biggest concern is my legs. I’ve been putting Neosporin on them because I’m worried about the scratches becoming infected. There are so many of them I’m shocked every time I look at my legs.

My original plan was to get Spazz declawed but after reading some articles and blog posts about the procedure behind it I don’t know if I can do that to him. It’s definitely a bigger procedure than I thought and now after reading everything it seems mean to put a kitten/cat through that surgery.

I looked at the soft paws product that is out on the market but I’m not sure about those either because I’ve heard a couple people talk about bad experiences with that product.

I’m using the spray bottle to spray him when he claws, bites, etc but it certainly doesn’t seem to be helping. Is there any other way to discipline a kitten? Can you even train kittens to not do those things?

If you figure it out, let me know! We’ve had Roxy since she was 8 weeks old and she’s now about 4 months old. She claws and bites at my feet when I’m sleeping. She chews up papers. She tries to climb my curtains. She won’t stay off my kitchen counters. Ugh!!

Maybe they’ll grow out of it? I keep telling her she’s lucky she’s cute.

I am someone who had a very bad experience with soft paws. I do not recommend them. It was complete torture removing them and it caused Pepper a lot of pain.

Pepper let me clip her nails though – which was a big help.

HMMM, of course he is a kitten… but he might just have that disposition too. We had one that even when she was 2-3 she would be completely loving and then out of the blue attack you. We moved out of state and had to give her away, so I’m not sure how she turned out after that. I don’t have much advice for you… Maybe you need another one so he has a friend to play with and keep him occupied. LOL
