Help! How Do I Get Rid Of Them?

He’s lucky he’s so darn cute. Because right now I’m ready to get rid of him!

No I’m not talking about Caleb ;-) (Caleb is pretty darned cute though!)

PhotobucketI’m talking about our fur faced ball of energy Spazz. Caleb couldn’t have picked a better name for this kitten let me tell ya. It’s not even his devilish little ‘I’m gonna snuggle up to you and play calm and then attack your face or claw the heck out of you’ ways that have pushed me to the point of wanting to get rid of him.

The point of this post is I don’t know what to do or how to get rid of them.

By them I’m referring to the pesky nasty gross little things that have made their home in Spazz’s fur. Yeah I’m talking fleas. I knew he had to be treated when we got him. The girl told me she had been treating him but I should do it again (and when I gave him his first bath with flea shampoo I was like wow she couldn’t have treated him very good because they were bad!) So I suffered through 2 weeks of Spazz attacking me every single day while I treated him with flea stuff. I thought we were all good to go because he isn’t an outside cat and he seemed to be flea free for a couple weeks.

I saw him digging at his skin this weekend. And sure enough they are back even worse than in the beginning. And it grosses me out but what grossed me out even more was that I found two on Caleb’s blanket! UGH!!!!!

So today I washed every sheet, blanket, pillow case, etc that is in this house. I’m hoping that the wash kills them. I would think it would. But I don’t know what to do about Spazz. I’m treating him again but they don’t seem to be going away and he has parts on his body where he’s dug so much at his skin that it’s left scabs.

What was I thinking getting a kitty that I knew had fleas to begin with?

I honestly thought it was as simple as bathing him in flea shampoo for a couple weeks and that would be that. Why couldn’t it have been that simple?

HELP! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of these pesky disgusting annoying things?????

What happened was that you did kill the fleas on Spazz but you didn’t kill all the eggs in your carpet. They have now hatched. You will need to treat the carpet too along with treating the kitty and then treat the carpet again several weeks later to get rid of any baby fleas.
Be careful too of whatever products you use. Cats have very sensitive skin and will actually die if you use something on them that is meant for dogs.

When we got Roxy she was covered in fleas too. But since she was under 12 weeks old, we couldn’t find anything safe to use on a kitten her age. But I went on a hunt for something natural since I try to use natural stuff for my human family so why not the cats?

Anyway, I found this flea powder at Petco or Petsmart that’s completely natural. Its got rosemary in it, I know that much, but I can’t remember what else. Its in a tall round white shaker type container with a purple label. It worked like a charm. We’d just sprinkle some on her, rub it all in for a while and just kept doing that for a few days until they were gone. Of course, I also spent some time sitting there with her in my lap and a pair of tweezers in my hand.

If you see me on Twitter tomorrow, remind me and I’ll go find it and give you the details.

I know the flea medicine from the Vet works really well. Even some clinics will let you purchase the medicine without being a patient. I hope that helps! I hate fleas too.

Yeah, killing the eggs in the carpet is a must, and washing everything. You could try a flea collar too, but I really like the natural stuff April mentioned above.

    And Caleb is pretty cute! (-;

You definitely need to treat the house too now. When we bought our house (6 years ago), we didn’t know it (and the previously owner didn’t disclose it) but the house was infested with fleas. It was so bad that we had our cat treated at the vets and kept her with someone else, and had a professional service come in and fumagate the house while we went away for a few days. UUGGHH!

It is SO hard to get rid of fleas! My two boyz (cats) brought them from Florida when we moved! We’ve been battling the carpet and the cats for a while, but I think we’re finally seeing the end of it. The only thing that worked on the cats was the Advantage stuff from the vet. The over the counter stuff did nothing for my cats. But, hey, all bugs are HUGE in Florida, so it could’ve been a regional thing! Good luck!
