Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! I hope you all have a wonderful day
I can’t believe my son will be 10 in September….YIKES! The time certainly goes by quickly that’s for sure. I stop and think about all the things I missed – his first words, his first steps, etc because I had to go back to work as soon as my 6 weeks maternity leave was up. It’s kind of sad thinking that I missed all those milestones in my son’s life and that a daycare provider was the one to share those with my baby. I can’t wait until I have the opportunity to bring another child into the world and not have to miss all those milestones because I’m able to work from home.
I’m sitting here thinking about all the trials and tribulations I’ve been through as a mom, a young mom. I was 23 when I had Caleb and although that’s not as young as some people that are having kids it was still too young for me. I wasn’t prepared for motherhood that’s for sure. At 23 life was still all about me, I was in a very selfish stage of my life back then. It was hard having to give up all the freedom I was used to. And becoming a single mom 6 days before Caleb’s first birthday and not having a clue how I was going to raise him on my own was one of the scariest things I had ever faced in my life, at that point. And I think back to all the negative things that were said to me about how I’d never make it on my own, blah blah blah and I smile to think that I have made it on my own, that I have raised a pretty good kid. I think that’s a pretty big accomplishment and I’m pretty proud if I must say so.
I think about the times when he smiles at me, says I love you, wraps his arms around me for no reason, curls up on the couch with me, or the times he will come and crawl into bed with me and suddenly all the trials and rough times are erased from my memory because it’s these moments that remind me how blessed and special it is to be his mommy. It’s these precious moments that make me excited to think about having more kids but leave me sad wondering when that day will come. And I know Caleb will be a wonderful big brother, he’s so good with kids. Although he does tell me that he only wants to be a big brother to a boy, that I’m not allowed to have any girls
And because I was being sappy and looking back through old pictures I wanted to share some. They all seem so long ago. I can’t believe he was ever even this little (well not that he was ‘little’ when he was born, he weighed in at 9 lbs 13 1/2 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long. Big boy!).
Mommy gives Caleb 1st bath at home:

Even before he’s old enough to know it, he’s acting like a man & needing the remote in his hand:

I’m so proud to be a mom! I love my little man Caleb, he’s brought so much gray hair happiness into my life!

Awww Caleb is a darling and look at the smile on your face as you’re holding him! Thanks for sharing this Tishia. I think many of us were thinking of our babies this morning even though my teen “babies” are approaching 6 ft!

Look at how YOUNG you are in that picture… not that you’re old now… but you looked like a baby yourself!

Hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. Isn’t it great to go back and live in the past, even if only for a little while, through pictures when our kids were wee little ones?
