I drive an older car that has an oil leak so I just make sure to check it every week or so and keep it filled.  Well tonight I decided that I needed to check it again so I opened the hood, pulled the dipstick out & sure enough it was low. 

I took the cap off of where you put the oil, went inside my car to open the trunk & found the 2 oil bottles were empty.  Shut the trunk, go back to the front of the car and close the hood.  Get in car and take off for a friend’s house about 20 minutes away.  

En route to friends house I keep smelling oil really bad and notice that my car wasn’t running as smooth as normal, in fact I notice an interesting noise coming from under the hood.  Don’t pay much attention and just keep driving. 

Pull into friend’s house & go across the street cause my soon to be sis-n-law was at her parents.  Come out of her house & start heading back across the street only to see my hood up & my friend’s husband under it. 

Get a little closer & smell burning oil and see oil all over hood of car.  Conversation goes like this:

Ben: “Do you need to put oil in your car?”

Me:  “Well I checked it earlier and it was a little low but not……….(light bulb goes off suddenly) oh no I never put the oil cap back on! Oh how embarassing!”

Ben: “It’s ok we all make mistakes, but this is funny.  You might want to go buy some oil now seems how it’s really low now (as I’m looking at oil all over my engine & hood).”

Me:  “Ok so this stays between us, right?”

Ben: (laughing) “Sure, sure.”

Caleb: “Mom you are so lucky!”

So of course by the time I left everyone knew but it is totally hillarious!  This wasn’t just a ‘blonde’ moment – it was a total ‘girl’ moment….LOL!

And Heather I was thinking about you the entire time everyone was laughing because it just reminded me of your blunders I’ve read about (fire in kitchen, etc)……..LOL.  Aren’t single ‘girl’ moments so much fun?  

And I’ll NEVER live this one down that’s for sure!
